SICSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection. ICSI may be performed due to failed fertilization with IVF or male infertility such as low count, low motility and poor quality of sperm. In cases with no sperm in the ejaculate due to a blockage, sperm aspiration or testicular biopsy may be performed to retrieve the sperm for ICSI. ICSI is currently the most successful form of micro manipulative assisted fertilization available for male factor infertility. Your treatment cycle is exactly the same, both before and after egg collection, as for conventional IVF. The only difference is that our embryologists use micro-manipulation techniques in the laboratory to fertilise your eggs, instead of placing sperm and eggs together in a tissue culture dish. One cycle of ICSI takes between four weeks and six weeks to complete.
